APPA Award for Excellence in Facilities Management
Earlier this year, UArizona Facilities Management applied for the 2023 APPA Award for Excellence in Facilities Management. A couple of weeks ago, APPA sent a review committee to campus for three days to talk to staff, the campus community and to verify the application materials submitted.
After three days of campus tours, interviews with UAFM staff, a discussion with President Robbins, Dr. Richard Carmona, Steve Patterson, Ryan Goodell and many others, the team left thoroughly impressed with the quality of work, professionalism, teamwork and overall culture of compassion and caring for the University faculty, staff and students and its overall mission.
The University of Arizona Facilities Management Department has officially been awarded the Award for the third time in a row! UAFM received the award in 2013 and 2018.
The APPA Award for Excellence in Facilities Management (AFE) is designed to recognize and advance excellence in the field of educational facilities. Originally established in 1988, the AFE is APPA's highest institutional honor and provides educational institutions the opportunity for national and international recognition for their outstanding achievements in facilities management. The award is designed to highlight the essential role of facilities operations in the overall institutional mission and vision. AFE nominations are evaluated using the same criteria applied through the Facilities Management Evaluation Program (FMEP) in the areas of: leadership; strategic and operational planning; customer focus; information and analysis; development and management of human resources; process management; and, performance results. Nominated institutions also submit to a site review conducted by an awards evaluation team, when appropriate. The AFE designation is valid for a period of five years.
